Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant- During the 1800’s and into the 20th century, Manayunk was known for the manufacture and sales of fine textiles. Krook’s Mill, now the Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant, was one of the linchpins of the then booming industry. Anne Dawson opened the mill in 1822 at the mouth of the Manayunk Canal and the Krook family followed with the existing building just short of 100 years later in 1912. A cornerstone from the original mill was placed in the new building. Krook’s Mill eventually closed its doors in 1992.

Four years later, Harry Renner IV brought the facility back to life as a space for retail business, a fine eatery, a brewery and as an entertainment complex for both neighbors and visitors alike to enjoy. Our first batch of fresh-brewed beer was tapped on October 17, 1996. In 2000, we expanded our outdoor seating with a deck overlooking the Schuylkill River. In 2003, we added a Stone Pizza Oven and a Sushi Bar to expand our menu selection. Today you can still find the scale, now an antique, that was once used to weigh the wool brought into the factory.

On Tap Network’s Haiti Hibiscus Event April 22nd

http://ontapnetworkhibiscus.eventbrite.com/

The founders of On Tap Network, Leigh, Angela and Jeff, decided quickly after learning of the devastation in Haiti that they wanted to do something to help.  They are dedicating their next networking event to the people of Haiti.

Not only are they offering their attendees a chance to donate what they can, they are also donating 10% of the proceeds of this event to the relief effort.

They are also asking to donate items.  They have partnered up with The Haitian Professionals of Philadelphia and the American Red Cross of Philadelphia to ensure that the money and items donated go directly Haiti.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR THIS EVENT:

Board Member from the American Red Cross of Philadelphia, Ken Pina

Attending this event will not only build your referral network, but will also be helping a country that does not have the ability and structure to help themselves.  Why do Americans step in and help other countries?  Because we can and we should.  Because the countries that we help don’t have the government back-up like we do.  With everything that we go through as a Country, we are very, very lucky that we live where we do.  Whatever your beliefs about this Country and our government are, we are human beings and watching this unfold on TV is hard for anyone.  We won’t stop at Haiti…  We’d like to be able to help in our own country and other countries as well.  If you know of any organization or family that needs help, let us know.  We could dedicate our next event to them as well!

All of our best,

Leigh Maro, Angela Myrtetus and Jeff Stein

Chima Steakhouse-named after chimarrao, a traditional drink of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, that symbolizes hospitality and friendship-certainly lives up to its name. Legend has it, in South Brazil traditional gauchos (cowboys) would consume a diet that consisted almost entirely of beef. The meat was seasoned (rodizio), placed on skewers, and slow cooked over a wood burning flame. Historically, gauchos were known for their generosity and hospitality.Gauchos roam the dining room continuously offering exquisite churrasco of 16 rotisserie meats. Chima’s sumptuous salad bar blends Brazilian and American favorites from salads, oven-fresh breads and soup. Chima is a place for friends and family to enjoy each other and great food.
